This letter was written to a church in the city of Colossae (in modern-day Turkey). At the time, the people in the church were hearing and believing a bunch of untrue teachings. These teachings included the idea that there was a way to salvation other than Jesus, and that Christians needed to obey Jewish laws and ways of living. They were also beginning to worship angels. As a result, Paul wrote this letter, reminding the believers to focus on Jesus. He explains Jesus' victory over darkness and how we should live, while stamping out the confusion caused by false teaching.

Colossians is a great letter, full of strong basic truths about the good news of Jesus. It reminds us to keep our focus on him, and it outlines the importance of not just believing the right things but doing the right things too.
