Matthew is one of the four books called 'Gospels' that tell us about the life and teachings of Jesus. This Gospel has a particular focus on Jesus' work and teachings. It begins with his birth, continuing until his resurrection. Matthew wrote his Gospel for the Jews, so this book is full of references to parts of the Old Testament that would have had a lot of meaning for them. He aimed to tell the Jews, through his writing, that Jesus was the Messiah who had been promised to them long ago.
The Old Testament pointed towards Jesus in loads of different ways, and Jesus changed the world by what he did and taught.
